Climate change: an approach to its repercussions on France

The global climate risk associated with the rise in greenhouse gases is now well documented: a rise in temperature of several degrees, with increased melting of major glaciers and rising sea levels. Current or future effects of these changes on our country, which are essential for evaluating their economic cost and scoping adaptation measures, are by definition more difficult to evaluate, but the results of digital models nevertheless enable us to produce a useful picture of future changes.

The aim of this website is to present essential information covering the phenomena observed in the 20th century and the early 21st century, extending to 2100 for climate simulations.

Website pages present:

  • Indicators for climate change as it can be established today through observations gathered and analysed by French scientific bodies. These indicators demonstrate changes which are already significant
  • Future climate projections established using the Météo-France climate model. This model calculates the development of physical parameters (temperature, rainfall, etc.) on the basis of socio-economic scenarios. Climate models cannot really predict the weather in a particular year. By contrast, these results, averaged over a sufficiently long period of time, generally 30 years, provide a good representation of the climate which can be expected over this period
